Hutan Malaysia

A conservation finance simulation where teams negotiate to raise RM50 million to save a Malaysian rainforest. Developed in-house by Free Tree Society for corporate teams and university students.

The Scenario

Step into the shoes of a government minister, an Indigenous community leader, a carbon credit developer or one of seven other stakeholders, all racing against the clock to save a 150,000-hectare rainforest in Malaysia.

Meet your facilitator

Omar Fateh is a seasoned finance professional and strategic leader with over two decades of experience spanning corporate finance, private equity, and public policy. He currently serves as the Director of Corporate Finance at Terracap Advisory Sdn Bhd, while simultaneously providing high-level guidance as a Senior Advisor for ERTH (Bluebell Technologies) and an Associate Partner at wippd Ltd (UK). His extensive career is highlighted by significant roles at Khazanah Nasional Berhad, where he served as Director of Investments for Dana Impak, and Ekuiti Nasional Berhad (Ekuinas). Notably, Omar’s expertise was leveraged at the highest levels of government during his tenure as a Special Officer to the Minister of Finance Malaysia in 2018. His foundational years were shaped by rigorous international experience at KPMG London and PwC, establishing a robust background in business modeling, assurance, and infrastructure finance.

Beyond his corporate achievements, Omar is a dedicated advocate for environmental sustainability and social welfare. He currently leads the Free Tree Society as President and has been an active volunteer with the Pertiwi Soup Kitchen for over a decade. His academic credentials are equally distinguished; he earned both his BSc and MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE)—graduating with First Class Honors for his undergraduate degree—and is a qualified Chartered Accountant (ICAEW). A former state-level debate champion and a proactive leader since his youth at Victoria Institution, Omar combines analytical rigor with a deep-seated commitment to community impact and strategic development.
